About the role#
The University of Virginia is hiring a Student Archival Stacks Assistant to support the Technical Services unit. This role requires a minimum commitment of 7 hours per week, with a standard schedule of 10 hours per week between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. This is a paid, on-site position for Federal Work-Study eligible students.
What you'll do#
- Organize and shift archival boxes and materials based on shelving arrangements.
- Confirm call numbers against library catalog records.
- Label and barcode boxes while maintaining inventory accuracy.
- Retrieve manuscript, university archive, and rare book materials for researcher requests.
- Prepare collection materials for transfer to off-site storage.
- Assist the Technical Services team with individual projects as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a UVA student with Federal Work-Study eligibility.
- Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work in a cold environment (typically below 65 degrees Fahrenheit).
- Ability to use ladders, book trucks, and other library equipment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handwrite neatly and legibly.
- Interest in fields such as History, English, Media Studies, or Art.

- Term: August 25, 2026, through May 14, 2027.

- Compensation: $16.71 per hour.
