About the role#
The Student Success Office at Piedmont Virginia Community College is hiring a graduate intern to support students in reaching their academic goals. You will work within a student services team to provide non-academic support and guidance to a diverse student body. This role focuses on holistic support for students who may face barriers to their education, such as financial challenges, time management issues, or being a first-generation college student.
What you'll do#
- Counsel and advise students regarding academic programs and planning.
- Provide non-academic support to students in designated classes.
- Run special events and host workshops.
- Communicate with students through in-person meetings, Zoom, phone, and email.
- Track student academic progress and schedule necessary appointments.
- Build working relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a graduate student at the University of Virginia.
- Eligibility for federal work study funding.
- Experience in advising or counseling.
- Ability to track student academic progress.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Majors in Psychology, Sociology, Human Resources, Communications, Business Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or Political Science are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Charlottesville, Virginia.
- Work Modality: On-site at the PVCC campus.
- Term: Fall 2026 through Winter 2027.
- Commitment: 15 hours per week.
- Compensation: $16.00 per hour.
