    About the role#

    The Parichy lab is hiring part-time assistants to support research in developmental genetics and evolutionary studies. This role involves routine laboratory tasks and animal care. You will work with tropical fish, specifically zebrafish and related species. This is an entry-level position that offers opportunities to build professional skills and contribute to ongoing research projects.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform routine molecular biology tasks, such as solution preparation, plate pouring, and sterilization.
    • Maintain lab organization and inventory.
    • Care for and feed tropical fish.
    • Assist with research activities like PCR, molecular cloning, mutant screens, and gene perturbation using CRISPR methods.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a UVA student with Federal Work-Study eligibility.
    • A resume.
    • Willingness to support the care of tropical fish.
    • No prior experience or licensure is required.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Charlottesville, Virginia (on-site).
    • Term: Summer 2026 and Fall 2026.
    • Compensation: $14.60 per hour.
    • Majors: Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or Psychology.
    • Hours are flexible to accommodate your course schedule.
