About the role#
This summer internship offers hands-on experience in construction operations. You will work on active job sites across the country, managing material flow and supporting project execution. This role provides exposure to safety practices and continuous improvement initiatives while you develop technical and professional skills. It is designed to prepare you for a potential future role on the Van Meter traveling team.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate materials and tools by ordering, receiving, staging, and distributing items.
- Manage inventory and set up fabrication stations to keep jobsites organized.
- Assist with construction tasks such as wire cutting, labeling, and assembling lighting products.
- Work with Inside Sales, Purchasing, Operations, and customers to support project goals.
- Apply safety best practices and contribute to cost-control efforts.
- Perform cycle counts and track materials to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment on active sites.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current standing as a college sophomore or junior.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to organize work, manage priorities, and accept feedback.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Willingness to travel throughout the summer and work extended shifts as needed.
- Ability to lift and handle materials up to 70 pounds and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
