About the role#
As a Gas Distribution Intern, you will work with field and office teams to support operations at Xcel Energy. You will contribute to projects focused on system reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance. This role provides exposure to gas distribution systems, construction, maintenance, and emergency response procedures. You will help improve operational efficiency and customer service while gaining hands-on experience in the utility industry.
What you'll do#
- Analyze operational data and performance metrics to find trends and improvement opportunities.
- Assist with tracking construction, maintenance, and emergency response activities.
- Participate in field visits to observe gas distribution operations and work practices.
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Dispatch, and Safety teams on process improvement.
- Develop reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership and operational teams.
- Review standard operating procedures and suggest process efficiencies.
- Support asset management and data quality improvement efforts.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or higher at an accredited college or university as of Fall 2027.
- Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Ability to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours per week) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours per week).
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and other data analysis tools is preferred.
- Interest in utility operations, energy infrastructure, and continuous improvement.
