About the role#
This internship provides practical exposure to maintenance management, equipment reliability, and engineering support. You will work alongside mechanics, storekeepers, and cross-functional teams in a large-scale port environment. The role involves a mix of office-based tasks and outdoor work in operational areas. You will gain experience in terminal automation, system integration, and safety initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Support the maintenance and engineering teams with daily operations.
- Assist with initiatives that improve equipment and system performance.
- Help with preventive maintenance processes, equipment inspections, and troubleshooting.
- Review and improve routine maintenance and repair checklists.
- Manage data entry, maintenance shift reports, equipment records, and software updates.
- Apply mechanical, electrical, and automation principles to support operations.
- Identify ways to reduce repetitive equipment breakdowns and improve reliability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects and safety initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited bachelor’s degree program with a STEM focus, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- A continuous improvement mindset and an interest in engineering, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Basic knowledge of control systems, robotics, or electrical and mechanical systems.
- Programming knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow directions.

- Location: Los Angeles, California.
- Schedule: Full-time during the summer and part-time during the academic year.
- This is a paid, full-time internship position.
