About the role#
The Visitor Experience Ambassador supports the daily operations of the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD). You will serve as the first point of contact for museum guests, manage the admissions desk, and assist with retail operations. This role involves both front-of-house responsibilities and gallery oversight to ensure a welcoming and safe environment for all visitors. This is a Federal Work Study position.
What you'll do#
- Staff the admissions desk and greet visitors with a positive, attentive presence.
- Promote museum memberships and assist with sales.
- Maintain the visual appearance, organization, and inventory of the bookstore.
- Monitor gallery spaces to ensure the safety of artwork and enforce museum policies.
- Communicate exhibition themes and artist perspectives in a respectful, inclusive manner.
- Provide information to guests regarding museum programs, mission, and upcoming events.
- Assist visitors with navigating the museum galleries.
What you'll need#
- Previous experience in a customer service, hospitality, museum, or cultural institution role.
- Proven experience with public interaction and sales.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and email.
- Familiarity with African Diaspora literature, contemporary visual arts, or bookstore operations.
- Ability to communicate clearly with diverse audiences.
- Capacity to stand and move throughout gallery spaces for extended periods.
