About the role#
The Surgical Tech Intern role offers students currently enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technology program the chance to gain hands-on experience in the operating room. This is a part-time position, scheduled for one day per week. We aim to place interns at sites where they would like to work post-graduation. One completed clinical rotation may be required for consideration.
What you'll do#
- Perform preparatory, scrubbing, and related services under the observation of a surgical tech, OR nurse, or surgeon.
- Assist with surgical cases across various specialty areas.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient environment for patient care.
- Utilize aseptic techniques to prepare materials, supplies, and equipment, including draping the surgical area and managing sterile fields.
- Act as a scrub assistant and maintain knowledge of various surgical procedures.
- Set up operating rooms by moving equipment like tables, cameras, and microscopes, and return equipment after procedures.
- Transport patients, equipment, and supplies as needed.
- Notify staff of any equipment or supply issues and maintain specialty carts.
- Perform patient positioning and transfers using proper lifting and movement techniques.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited or approved Surgical Technology program.
- Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques and operating room equipment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire, unless otherwise determined by leadership.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, push or pull with 30 lbs of force, and perform physical tasks like standing, bending, and reaching throughout a shift.

- This is an on-site role based in Aurora, Wisconsin.
- The position is part-time and paid at a rate of $19.00 per hour.
