About the role#
Alcon is hiring Optical & Vision Science Engineering Interns for the Summer 2027 program. You will work on real-world projects alongside professionals to build your technical skills and gain industry experience. This is a full-time, paid position.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate how different intraocular-lens models affect hazard detection while driving, particularly under glare.
- Examine how contrast sensitivity and visual acuity relate to optical-quality measures like the modulation transfer function.
- Design and run laboratory studies using vision simulators, wavefront sensors, and psychophysical testing systems.
- Assist with advanced metrology, including instrument design, testing, qualification, image processing, and data analysis.
- Use optical imaging, interferometric techniques, and optical coherence tomography for ophthalmic research.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited university or college for at least one semester before and after the internship.
- Progress toward a bachelor's degree in optics, optical engineering, optometry, vision science, imaging, physics, or a related field.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0.
- Availability for a 10-12 week, full-time summer commitment.

- This is an on-site role located in Fort Worth, Texas; Lake Forest, California; Johns Creek, Georgia; Houston, Texas; or Goleta, California.
