About the role#
Amentum is hiring a Controls & Instrumentation Engineer Intern to support projects ranging from small studies to multi-million dollar turn-key supply. You will work under the supervision of senior engineering staff to design, develop, and deliver control and data acquisition systems in an office, lab, or construction site environment.
What you'll do#
- Develop hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for control and data acquisition systems.
- Implement control system software designs for temperature, pressure, humidity, flow, force, and motion of mechanisms.
- Develop control system software using PLC ladder logic, function block, and HMI programming.
- Apply closed loop controls methods to manage continuously variable systems.
- Implement interfaces to facility equipment using hardwired connections and industrial networks.
- Support hardware assembly and fabrication tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program for Electrical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering.
- 0-5 years of experience in control or data acquisition system design, implementation, or commissioning.
- Solid math background to select and develop data uncertainty calculations and control transfer function realizations.
- US Citizenship.
- An interest in electronics, instrumentation, PLCs, variable frequency drive systems, motion control, sensors, and communication networks.
- A desire to learn software development in C, C++, or C# and tools like LabVIEW, MATLAB, and SIMULINK.

- Location: Tullahoma, Tennessee.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling.
- Work schedule: Monday through Thursday from 7:30am to 5:15pm and Friday from 7:30am to 11:30am.
- Physical requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs and maneuver in and around facility equipment for field measurements or troubleshooting.
