    About the role#

    The American Electric Power summer internship is a 10 to 12 week paid program designed for students pursuing degrees in engineering. Interns work alongside experienced professionals on projects that support the electric utility industry. This is a full-time, on-site role based in the Columbus and New Albany, Ohio area.

    What you'll do#

    • Collaborate with project teams and engineers to plan, design, and execute enterprise resource projects.
    • Participate in design reviews, training sessions, and constructability assessments.
    • Visit operational facilities to observe power system operations and assist with inspections and tests.
    • Analyze data to develop reports, cost estimates, and dashboards.
    • Support documentation efforts for initiatives focused on operational performance and safety.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering at an ABET-accredited program.
    • Completed at least your freshman year of college.
    • Expected graduation date of December 2027 or later.
    • Must be at least 18 years old.

    Location & details#

    • Locations: Columbus, Ohio and New Albany, Ohio.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Pay: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour depending on education hours.
    • Benefits: Includes paid AEP-recognized holidays and a 401(k) account. A $1,500 monthly housing stipend is provided for those moving more than 45 miles from their home address.
    • Note: This position is not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.
