    About the role#

    The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is hiring Graduate Teaching Assistants to support undergraduate and graduate courses. This part-time position involves 3 hours of work per week. It is open only to students currently enrolled in a graduate program at American University.

    What you'll do#

    • Help instructors prepare and deliver course materials.
    • Lead discussions, tutorials, and review sessions.
    • Hold regular office hours to assist students with course content.
    • Grade assignments, quizzes, and exams.
    • Maintain records of student performance and attendance.
    • Assist with test administration and proctoring.
    • Provide feedback to instructors on student progress.
    • Attend required training sessions and meetings.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an AU graduate program, preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science.
    • Strong academic performance in relevant subjects.
    • Completion of the course you are assisting with, plus at least one subsequent course in that subject.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage your time.
    • A commitment to an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
    • Prior teaching or tutoring experience is preferred but not required.

    Location & details#

    • Work is performed on-site, remotely, or in a hybrid format based on course and instructor needs.
    • This is a paid position at $20.00 per hour.
