    About the role#

    This co-op position is for PhD students interested in R&D within the semiconductor industry. You will join a team focused on developing next-generation processes and materials for future technology nodes. The role involves working at the intersection of materials science, plasma physics, and surface engineering to move concepts through feasibility testing.

    What you'll do#

    • Research and support novel semiconductor processes for future device architectures.
    • Use techniques like FTIR, Raman, XPS, XRR, ellipsometry, SEM, and TEM to perform thin-film characterization.
    • Design and execute experiments using DOE methodologies.
    • Analyze data using Python, MATLAB, or JMP.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional groups such as lithography, etch, and deposition teams.
    • Present technical findings to internal stakeholders.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a PhD program for Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or Physics.
    • Research experience in semiconductor processing, thin-film materials, plasma science, or advanced characterization.
    • Proficiency in scientific programming and data analysis using tools like Python or MATLAB.
    • Ability to work in shared research facilities and follow cleanroom protocols.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Gloucester, Massachusetts.
    • Term: 6 to 9 months, starting between September and November 2026.
    • Work modality: On-site, full-time.
    • This is a paid position.
