About the role#
Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking an intern for the Summer 2026 term. This is a full-time, paid position based on-site in Peoria, Illinois. You will work within our underwriting department to gain hands-on experience in the insurance industry.
What you'll do#
- Learn about insurance coverages, contracts, and company procedures to inform your underwriting decisions.
- Study company policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand their practical use.
- Analyze risk factors, including loss experience, financial conditions, and physical characteristics.
- Gain a working knowledge of the various sections that support the underwriting department.
- Communicate effectively with independent agents and internal staff through written and verbal channels.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in college, entering your junior or senior year.
- Pursuit of a degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics.
- Ability to organize data, handle multiple tasks at once, and make independent decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Capacity to resolve complex issues.
- Ability to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.

- Compensation: Starting rate of $18.00 per hour with bonus eligibility.
