About the role#
This paid internship offers nursing students the chance to gain clinical experience at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, South Dakota. You will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse mentor to provide patient care while practicing at a professional level. This position is part-time, scheduled for 72 hours every two weeks, and takes place during the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct patient care, including physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support.
- Review physician prescriptions and coordinate care with other healthcare providers.
- Obtain medical histories and examine patients to document their physical and psychological status.
- Develop nursing diagnoses, care objectives, and specific nursing interventions.
- Instruct patients and their families on conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
- Evaluate patient progress against therapeutic standards and modify care plans as needed.
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment by following infection-control policies and protocols.
- Document care services in patient records.
- Manage patient care equipment and maintain necessary medical supplies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a CCNE or NLN accredited Registered Nursing program.
- Completion of all but the final one or two semesters of your program.
- Visual acuity adequate to perform all job duties.
- The ability to communicate effectively with others.
- The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds.
