About the role#
This position supports the daily operations of the Baylor Sciences and Facilities department within the Molecular Biosciences Center. You will work with Dr. Nemec to manage lab equipment, assist researchers, and maintain shared laboratory spaces. This is a part-time role requiring at least 10 hours per week with a flexible schedule during the summer of 2026.
What you'll do#
- Operate and maintain complex scientific instruments, including the Northern Lights flow cytometer, FACSMelody and Sony cell sorters, and various molecular imagers and analyzers.
- Perform ongoing maintenance and calibration of specialized lab equipment.
- Train researchers on the use of autoclaves, molecular imagers, and analyzers.
- Maintain BSL2 shared cell culture facilities, including scheduled decontamination.
- Design and draft training modules for researchers.
- Assist with or lead classes and tours held within the facility.
- Ensure main lab spaces remain clean and organized.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a graduate student in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
- High level of knowledge regarding research instruments.
- Previous experience working with complex scientific equipment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Professional communication skills for training, teaching, and corrective situations.
Location & details#
- Location: BSB C305R, 101 Bagby Ave, Waco, Texas.
- Schedule: Minimum 10 hours per week, on-site.
- Pay: $12 per hour.
