About the role#
This internship provides hands-on clinical experience for senior students in an accredited Surgical Technology program. You will work alongside experienced surgical technologists, nurses, and surgeons in an academic medical center. The role focuses on building clinical confidence and technical skills to prepare for future certification and a career in surgery.
What you'll do#
- Prepare operating rooms for upcoming surgeries.
- Sterilize instruments and ensure equipment readiness.
- Assist surgeons by passing instruments and supplies.
- Maintain a sterile field and safe surgical environment.
- Prepare patients for procedures.
- Participate as an active member of the surgical team.
- Support intra-operative temperature regulation and follow sharps safety protocols.
- Handle and label specimens accurately.
- Complete required documentation within your scope of practice.
- Gain familiarity with pharmacologic agents used in the sterile field.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Status as a senior-year Surgical Technologist student.
- Ability to obtain Surgical Technologist certification within 6 months of graduation.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
