About the role#
As a Tax Intern in Core Tax Services, you will work with experienced professionals to prepare tax returns and extensions. This summer internship allows you to gain hands-on experience with firm practices while building professional relationships. You will apply your educational background and organizational skills to support our client base.
What you'll do#
- Ensure clients comply with tax authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
- Follow firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
- Use referencing systems and workpapers to tie to tax returns.
- Prepare simple tax returns using tax software, perform quarterly estimates, and handle extensions.
- Assist with responses to Internal Revenue Service notices.
- Help project year-end filings and assist with income tax provisions.
- Research tax information using online tools and monitor tax law developments.
- Recommend methods to maximize client benefits and decrease tax liabilities.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting or a relevant field.
- Active pursuit of school credits required to become a CPA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and follow instructions.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.

- This internship is based in Norfolk, Virginia.
- The position is on-site and full-time.
- The term for this role is Summer 2027.
