About the role#
This summer internship is based in Calgary with the Commodity Derivatives desk. You will work alongside energy professionals to support a market-making team that serves clients across the energy value chain, including producers, pipelines, and end-use consumers. The role involves analyzing market fundamentals for global and Canadian crude oil and gas markets to inform trading and sales decisions. You will participate in a 14-week program that includes professional development, networking with senior leaders, and exposure to trading strategies.
What you'll do#
- Analyze market fundamentals related to crude oil and gas.
- Build and maintain Canadian Crude data feeds.
- Develop and deploy business solutions, including pricing and risk models.
- Create client presentation materials using Excel and PowerPoint.
- Develop client trade ideas and assist in maintaining marketing infrastructure and pitch books.
- Support the desk by organizing market data, recapping events, and planning client activities.
- Improve existing technology, system infrastructure, and internal reporting.
- Shadow and learn from professionals in Trading, Sales, and Strategy.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or non-MBA Master’s program with a graduation date of December 2027 or Spring 2028.
- A strong academic record and extracurricular achievement.
- Demonstrated interest in financial or energy markets.
- Excellent research, analytical, and technical writing skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of professional integrity.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently while working effectively in a team.
- Preferred degree paths include Finance, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Statistics.
- Experience with Excel, including scripting and spreadsheet design.
- Technical familiarity with front-end languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Angular), back-end languages (C++, C#, Java, Python, VBA), statistical languages (R, MatLab), or databases (SQL, Oracle).
