About the role#
WGAL-TV offers paid internships within the News department for the Fall 2026 term. Interns spend 10 to 12 weeks gaining hands-on experience by shadowing professionals across various departments, including the assignment desk, TV production, digital news, sports, and weather. These positions typically consist of 16 hours per week, scheduled based on academic requirements and mutual availability.
What you'll do#
- Assist team members with gathering news, including making calls to reporters, sources, and government agencies.
- Write and format scripts for broadcast and digital platforms.
- Research and write content for the WGAL app, website, and social media channels.
- Support field work and news gathering efforts.
- Analyze weather charts and models to prepare forecasts and produce graphics.
- Research sports statistics and pitch story ideas.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a meteorology curriculum or related program is required for Weather department internships.
- A strong interest and working knowledge of local and national sports scenes for Sports department internships.
- Familiarity with news production and digital platforms.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Students pursuing degrees in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Political Science, or English are encouraged to apply.
