About the role#
Chestnut Health Systems offers a practicum and internship opportunity for master’s-level students to gain clinical experience in substance use and behavioral health. You will work with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, in residential and intensive outpatient settings. This is an unpaid, on-site role that provides exposure to both clinical work and program administration.
What you'll do#
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling under supervision.
- Lead or co-lead psychoeducational and skills-based groups.
- Complete biopsychosocial assessments and assist with treatment planning.
- Document services in electronic systems.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and attend team meetings.
- Participate in client intake, case management, and discharge planning.
- Support crisis intervention and connect clients to community resources.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a second-year master’s student in a Clinical-Counseling or related program.
- Majors in Psychology, Public Health, or Nursing.
- Basic computer skills.
- Professionalism, responsibility, and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to engage in supervision and apply feedback to your practice.
- Willingness to participate in direct care after completing required trainings.

- This position is located in Madison and St Clair Counties, Illinois.
- The work is on-site and full-time.
- Openings are available on a rolling basis.
- Some evening availability may be required.
