About the role#
The Denver Sheriff Department offers a clinical internship program for Master's level students interested in corrections and jail-based mental health care. You will work alongside the Crisis Response Team to provide services for individuals in custody. This role provides direct experience with trauma-informed care and evidence-based practices within a multi-disciplinary team.
What you'll do#
- Work with clinicians on initial clinical interviews to determine functioning levels and manage mental health alerts.
- Assist in client evaluations for placement and other services by shadowing assessments.
- Provide individual and group intervention services.
- Help develop and implement coordinated treatment plans alongside other professionals.
- Participate in client staffings for reentry and transition planning.
- Attend individual weekly supervision sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Master's degree program in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Completion of all prerequisite coursework required by your academic institution.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a clinical environment.
- Genuine interest in working within a corrections or jail-based facility.
