About the role#
This externship program provides practical experience in a small animal practice. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience and prepare for your career after graduation. We assign each student a mentor to provide instruction and evaluation based on your specific learning goals or college requirements. The program duration is flexible, typically lasting two to three weeks, though it can range from two to eight weeks.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for patients.
- Assist in the management of medical cases and provide wellness care.
- Scrub in to surgery and refine your technical skills.
- Develop client communication skills.
- Produce accurate medical records and SOAPs within daily practice time limits.
- Participate in all aspects of patient care under veterinary supervision.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Professional liability insurance.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- A professional demeanor and commitment to ethical standards.
