About the role#
The Safety Intern role is a summer position based in Chicago. You will work with a project team to monitor construction sites and ensure safe working conditions. This is a paid, full-time opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the construction industry.
What you'll do#
- Inspect construction areas to identify and document hazardous conditions.
- Recommend corrective measures and confirm that hazards are resolved.
- Investigate property damage and personal injury accidents.
- Compile data, photographs, and reports related to safety incidents.
- Conduct employee interviews following accidents.
- Assist with industrial hygiene sampling and emergency rescue procedures.
- Help maintain fire protection and grounding systems.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program related to Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Public Health, Health Administration, Kinesiology, or Criminal Justice.
- A solid understanding of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- The ability to spot hazards and suggest ways to fix them.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Safety certifications, such as OSHA, Fall Protection, Silica, or Scaffold Awareness, are a plus.
