    About the role#

    As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern within the Global Propulsion Systems team, you will work alongside engineers to shape how General Motors builds propulsion systems. This includes high-voltage electric motors, battery systems, precision-machined transmissions, and drive units. You will be embedded in active project teams, contributing to programs with real deadlines. Depending on your assignment, you may work on a plant floor, in a process development lab, or at a virtual engineering workstation.

    What you'll do#

    • Research, test, and optimize assembly or fabrication processes for propulsion components in a lab or plant environment.
    • Contribute to equipment launch activities, including installation, debugging, and qualification of manufacturing equipment.
    • Apply lean manufacturing principles by analyzing production line throughput and identifying waste.
    • Create or refine 3D process layouts, simulation models, or CAD/CAM work instructions.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve manufacturing quality or scrap issues.
    • Participate in structured problem-solving activities to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
    • Develop and present technical reports, process documentation, and project updates to engineering leads.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related technical field.
    • Graduation date between December 2027 and June 2029.
    • Foundational knowledge of engineering principles such as mechanics, materials, or manufacturing processes.
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and solve problems systematically.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage individual tasks independently.
