About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to work within our Railway Engineering discipline. You will assist professional engineers in planning and designing construction documents for various rail clients. The work involves rail alignments, grading, drainage, utility plans, and construction staging. You will work primarily in MicroStation OpenRoads, though some projects use AutoCAD with Civil3D.
What you'll do#
- Prepare plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Gather and provide data for engineering or environmental reports and studies.
- Perform and review calculations or reports.
- Conduct field investigations to collect project information.
- Document and observe construction operations.
- Write memoranda, letters, and general reports while maintaining project records.
- Monitor contractor activities and assist with the review of contractor invoices.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Architecture program.
- Completion of your sophomore year by the time the internship begins.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- A valid driver's license.
