    About the role#

    WGAL-TV offers paid news internships for the Fall 2026 term. Interns spend 10-12 weeks gaining experience across various departments including the assignment desk, news production, digital media, sports, and weather. This role is on-site in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Internships typically consist of 16 hours per week, scheduled based on mutual availability and academic requirements.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist team members with gathering news, including taking and placing calls to reporters, sources, government agencies, and the public.
    • Research and write content for WGAL digital platforms, such as the app, website, and social media channels.
    • Support field work and news gathering efforts alongside staff photographers and reporters.
    • Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast and daily sportscasts.
    • Analyze weather charts and models, prepare forecasts, and produce graphics for the weather department.
    • Pitch story ideas and research statistics for sports coverage.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in a degree program related to Journalism, Communications, or Media Studies.
    • For weather internships, you must be enrolled in a meteorology curriculum or a closely related program.
    • A cover letter detailing your department preference, available start and end dates, and your weekly availability.
    • A statement of your main objectives for the internship and your strongest areas of interest.
    • Sports interns should have a working knowledge of local and national sports scenes and the ability to discuss current sports topics.
