About the role#
We are looking for a Strategic Sourcing Intern to join our Procurement team for the summer of 2027. This role supports cost analysis, supplier sourcing, and process documentation. You will work closely with Category Managers, Product Managers, and Logistics Specialists to clean data, break down cost structures, and document standard operating procedures. This is a 14-week, full-time position.
What you'll do#
- Clean and prepare supplier, item, and pricing data for procurement and financial reviews.
- Compile spend, volume, and pricing history to support commodity reviews.
- Build cost breakdown reviews for items, including material, labor, overhead, tooling, and freight.
- Manage indirect vendor sourcing by building bid lists, issuing RFQs, and summarizing quotes.
- Track supplier performance including on-time delivery, quality, and responsiveness.
- Create and update standard operating procedures for procurement, logistics, and product management.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding quotes, order confirmations, lead times, and documentation.
- Use SAP Business One daily to retrieve purchase history and pricing data.
- Compare shipping methods and carriers against cost and transit time for inbound freight.
- Partner with Product Management on item specifications and bills of material.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Supply Chain, Business, or Finance, with an expected graduation in 2027 or 2028.
- Proven Excel experience, specifically with interconnected spreadsheets, XLOOKUP, pivot tables, and formulas.
- Comfort working with large, unstructured data sets.
- Strong organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Critical attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Coursework or experience in cost accounting or financial analysis is a plus.
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems, international business, or Microsoft Teams is preferred.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site at our corporate headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
- The internship begins May 17, 2027.
- You will work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
