About the role#
This Pharmacy Intern position involves performing technical and clinical duties for the hospital unit-dose drug distribution system and intravenous admixture program. You will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to support the daily operations of the pharmacy department.
What you'll do#
- Use clinical skills to assess medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
- Procure and distribute medication orders per physician or pharmacist request or prearranged work assignments.
- Prepare intravenous medication including antibiotics, cardiac drips, parenteral nutrition, and chemotherapy.
- Assist in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies.
- Restock medications and IV dispensing areas.
- Prepackage bulk medications into unit dose packages.
- Maintain pharmacy inventory through assigned inspections and the use of automated dispensing units.
- Contribute to department operations by managing computer functions, cart fill lists, and label generation.
- Participate in continuous performance improvement and regulatory compliance efforts.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a School of Pharmacy or status as a foreign pharmacy graduate.
- Applicants must apply for a Pharmacy Intern license in Pennsylvania within 120 days of hire.
- Ability to perform all technician duties to assist in training new employees and students.
- Commitment to maintaining competence and participating in quality improvement efforts.
