About the role#
This is an unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program, designed for transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel. The role is based in Norfolk, Virginia, and runs during Summer 2025. You will train as a Mechanical Master Tradesperson within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated supervisor. This program focuses on providing real-world experience, working closely with a mentor and senior leadership on meaningful projects.
What you'll do#
- Train on mechanical trade basics, including equipment operation, configuration, and maintenance.
- Work on special projects involving design, fabrication, testing, and modification based on feedback.
- Learn to maintain quality control, follow safety practices, and manage equipment such as air compressors, pumps, and refrigeration systems.
- Develop skills in scheduling, reporting, and briefing customers and senior management on work progress.
- Engage in a structured training plan covering procedure development, drawing analysis, and technical reporting.
What you'll need#
- Must be active-duty military within the final 180 days of service to participate (applications accepted within the final 12 months).
- Must possess a Confidential or higher security clearance.
- Education and experience requirements are dependent on the specific Program of Instruction.
- Physical requirements vary based on the Program of Instruction.
