    About the role#

    The Adult Education Intern assists the Adult Education Specialist in planning and running English language training classes for refugees and immigrants in Richmond. This role supports new arrivals in building the language skills necessary to access local resources and employment opportunities. You will also help connect clients to community classes and assist with digital literacy initiatives.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist staff with the enrollment, coordination, and implementation of classes.
    • Contact students to confirm their availability for upcoming sessions.
    • Help clients navigate barriers to education, such as transportation and childcare needs.
    • Differentiate and scaffold instruction for students in individual or small group settings.
    • Collect and interpret data to support educational initiatives and student success.
    • Coordinate with volunteers to ensure proper coverage for classes and childcare.
    • Communicate with local stakeholders to connect students with appropriate services.
    • Support teachers in preparing student materials.

    What you'll need#

    • Undergraduate or graduate level studies in education, social work, international relations, social sciences, or a related field.
    • Background in education or experience teaching in formal or informal settings.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
    • Effective communication skills for a cross-global environment.
    • Proficiency in more than one language is preferred, specifically Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Spanish, or Kinyarwanda.
    • Patience, flexibility, and a desire to help refugees adjust to life in the United States.
