About the role#
The Department of Composition and Music Studies is hiring a student peer tutor for the 2026-27 academic year. This position supports students through one-on-one conferences, requiring a mature and patient approach to teaching. We encourage students from diverse backgrounds to apply.
What you'll do#
- Tutor students in music theory for 4-5 hours each week.
- Provide occasional support for aural skills as needed.
- Maintain a static weekly schedule, typically between 3-8pm.
- Manage additional tutoring appointments throughout the academic year.
- Assist students during final exam periods.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with those you support.
What you'll need#
- Outstanding academic achievement as shown by your GPA.
- Grades of A or A- in all music theory and aural skills courses taken.
- Current enrollment in or past completion of Music Theory III and Aural Skills IV.
- Prior formal or informal experience teaching or tutoring music theory and aural skills.
- A friendly, approachable manner with good listening skills.
- Preference is given to rising juniors.

- Pay: $16.00 per hour.
