About the role#
This internship focuses on the design, build, and testing of photonic devices for sensing and communications. You will work on experimental projects involving integrated acousto-optic devices, RF/microwave photonics, distributed fiber sensing, and fiber-optic communications.
What you'll do#
- Design and execute experiments to characterize photonic devices, components, and subsystems.
- Develop measurement methods and collect, assess, and interpret experimental data.
- Evaluate device performance, including optical loss, coupling, bandwidth, modulation response, linearity, noise, and environmental sensitivity.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate and validate designs at the device, subsystem, and system levels.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
- A strong foundation in photonics, device physics, electromagnetics, or related analytical methods.
- Experimental research, laboratory, or project experience in integrated photonics, acousto-optic devices, RF/microwave photonics, distributed fiber sensing, or fiber-optic communications.
- Experience with waveguide acousto-optic modulators, SAW/BAW transducers, or RF-drive integration.
- Knowledge of programmable RF/microwave photonic circuits, tunable delay, or microwave photonic filtering.
- Experience with frequency combs, silicon/silicon-nitride/InP/thin-film lithium-niobate PICs, photonic packaging, or electronic-photonic co-integration.
Location & details#
- Location: Palm Bay, FL.
- Work modality: On-site.
- Schedule: 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
