    About the role#

    The National Security Engineering Division (NSED) offers internships for graduate students or recent graduates in engineering and related fields. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to research and technical projects within the Engineering Directorate. You will work alongside engineers, scientists, and technical staff to support research in areas such as electrical, mechanical, and optical engineering, as well as applied physics and data science.

    What you'll do#

    • Provide technical and research support for projects across various engineering and scientific domains.
    • Conduct research in your assigned area under limited direction and supervision.
    • Perform technical assignments of basic complexity and support scientists on development projects.
    • Attend relevant seminars and facility tours.
    • Document your work and deliver a technical presentation or talk on your project.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a graduate program or completion of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, computer engineering, data science, or related fields.
    • Experience applying engineering or scientific principles to solve technical problems.
    • Demonstrated academic achievement.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Eligibility to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Livermore, California.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Commitment: Full-time for ten to twelve weeks.
    • Compensation: Paid position with a monthly salary range of $6,752 to $8,201, based on a step structure determined by your most recent completed academic year.
