About the role#
Mauldin & Jenkins is hiring an Audit Accounting Intern to join our team in Houma. This is a paid, full-time internship that offers hands-on experience with audits, management services, and tax return preparation. You will work directly with senior staff on client engagements and learn the technical requirements of the accounting profession.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate internal accounting controls and test for compliance.
- Prepare financial statements following generally accepted accounting principles.
- Reconcile client bank accounts and subsidiary accounts.
- Compute accruals and document the underlying support.
- Prepare schedules for write-offs of prepaid expenses and deferred charges.
- Review data input and assist with tax return preparations.
- Research and resolve technical tax issues.
- Meet deadlines for tax returns and other assigned projects.
- Provide information and support to senior staff members.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college degree program with a major or concentration in accounting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of federal and state income tax laws, generally accepted accounting principles, and generally accepted auditing standards.
- Ability to maintain accuracy when handling numeric and alphabetic information.
- Professional appearance and conduct.
- Awareness of current developments in the accounting profession.
- You must provide your own housing and transportation.

- Location: Houma, Louisiana.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time with potential for overnight travel.
- Compensation: Paid internship with overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 per week.
