About the role#
McGill Associates, PA is looking for an Engineering Intern to join our team in Roanoke. This position allows you to apply classroom theory to practical civil engineering projects. You will work alongside Project Engineers to develop your technical skills and gain experience in professional engineering procedures. Assignments are tailored to your experience level as we help prepare you for future full-time work.
What you'll do#
You will support various project phases, from initial design to construction administration. Your daily tasks may include:
- Drafting and designing site layouts, grading, and earthwork calculations.
- Designing utility routing, storm drainage, and stormwater management systems.
- Working on water and wastewater treatment plant designs and linear infrastructure like water and sewer lines.
- Assisting with permitting, design reports, and final construction plans.
- Coordinating with field personnel to resolve installation issues and reviewing contractor shop drawings.
- Conducting site evaluations, field inspections, and utility system testing.
- Preparing project budgets, cost estimates, and quantity evaluations.
- Documenting design changes and communications.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related degree program. We prefer rising Juniors and Seniors.
- Experience using AutoCAD, with Civil 3D skills preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Clear writing and communication skills.
- A valid driver's license.
