About the role#
This internship is part of the Future Talent Program within the Nonclinical Drug Safety division. You will join the AI/ML Computational Toxicology team to help improve safety assessments for drug candidates. The project aims to accelerate decision-making and reduce the need for animal testing by applying machine learning and natural language processing to complex datasets.
What you'll do#
- Build and evaluate predictive models to assess toxicity risk and generate mechanistic hypotheses using multimodal pharmaceutical data.
- Develop NLP and LLM pipelines, including prompting, fine-tuning, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), to mine unstructured reports and literature.
- Create dashboards using tools like Streamlit to present your findings to scientists and leadership.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Computational Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computational Chemistry, Computational Linguistics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python and experience with data wrangling using pandas or SQL.
- Solid understanding of statistics and machine learning.
- Hands-on experience with scikit-learn and at least one deep learning framework, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub, and reproducible workflows.
- Experience with NLP and LLM tools like Hugging Face, spaCy, or NLTK.
- Knowledge of prompt design, fine-tuning, and RAG techniques.
Location & details#
- Location: West Point, Pennsylvania.
- Term: 10-12 weeks, beginning June 2027.
