About the role#
This internship is part of the Future Talent Program, lasting up to 12 weeks during Summer 2027. You will join the Regulated Bioanalytical Sciences team to support digital transformation projects. The work focuses on automating assay templates and recording aids used to document clinical sample testing and validation experiments. You will help improve documentation consistency, reduce manual data entry, and support the adoption of digital laboratory workflows within Benchling.
What you'll do#
- Review Test Method documents to understand assay workflows, critical steps, and data capture needs.
- Translate content into standardized, reusable Benchling templates.
- Identify key workflow steps, data fields, calculations, and repeatable elements for digitization.
- Support data field mapping and template design.
- Work with scientists and process owners to ensure templates meet requirements.
- Evaluate template usability and alignment with regulated practices.
- Create user guidance and supporting documentation.
- Provide written updates and present project outcomes at the end-of-summer intern symposium.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation and translate it into structured formats.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Comfort working with digital tools, spreadsheets, and structured data.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with Benchling, LIMS, or electronic laboratory notebooks is preferred.
- Experience with data structuring, process mapping, or systems documentation is a plus.
- Exposure to Python, R, SQL, or similar tools is helpful.
- Understanding of laboratory workflows and regulated scientific documentation.
