    About the role#

    This is a year-round, full-time graduate internship based in Golden, Colorado. You will work with researchers in the Center for Integrated Mobility Sciences to analyze mobility trends and the energy implications of new transportation technologies. This role involves database development, data processing, and creating dashboards to support ongoing research.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist researchers on projects providing insights into transportation energy systems, specifically regarding how emerging systems impact travel behavior and energy use.
    • Analyze large-scale real-world travel activity, vehicle driving, and geospatial datasets.
    • Contribute to the development and enhancement of population evolution and demographic microsimulation frameworks, including model design, calibration, and validation.
    • Communicate modeling approaches and findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Evaluate transportation accessibility outcomes and help quantify tradeoffs associated with mobility systems and policy interventions.
    • Generate insights from transit datasets, such as GTFS, ridership, and fare data.
    • Document methods and assumptions while assisting with the preparation of technical reports and peer-reviewed publications.

    What you'll need#

    • A minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
    • Enrollment as a full-time student in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program, or completion of such a degree within the past 12 months.
    • Experience working with quantitative data and performing statistical or analytical tasks.
    • Proficiency in at least one programming or analytical tool, such as Python, R, MATLAB, or SQL.
    • Experience handling large or complex datasets.
    • Ability to create clear data visualizations.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.

    • Note: All candidates must be authorized to access the facility per Department of Energy rules and must be able to obtain a federal Personal Identity Verification card. Employment is conditional on passing a pre-employment drug test.
