About the role#
The Data Engineering organization within the Enterprise Technology Services business unit builds and governs the platforms that power core functions like lending, payments, fraud, and member experience. As a Summer Associate, you will join this team to work on strategic initiatives including real-time event-driven architecture and master data management. You will collaborate with architects, data scientists, and business stakeholders to modernize data ecosystems and improve decision-making processes.
What you'll do#
- Support real-time data and event streaming by analyzing data flows, monitoring event streams, and assisting with platform onboarding and automation.
- Contribute to Voice of the Member analytics by using data engineering tools to process structured and unstructured feedback.
- Assist with master data management through data profiling, quality assessments, metadata analysis, and validation.
- Identify and resolve data quality issues to improve the reliability of enterprise data assets.
- Develop and evaluate proof-of-concepts involving AI in emerging data technologies.
- Conduct research on industry trends and technology capabilities to support innovation.
- Document findings and present project outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support process improvements that increase operational efficiency and scalability across data platforms.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
- A strong academic record and a clear interest in data engineering, analytics, AI, or software development.
- Basic knowledge of data structures, databases, and software development principles.
- Familiarity with SQL and experience working with structured datasets.
- Understanding of programming languages like Python or Java.
- Exposure to real-time streaming technologies, cloud platforms, data integration, or data governance concepts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Location & details#
- This is a 12-week, full-time, on-site internship running from May 2027 to August 2027.
- Work location is in Vienna, Virginia.
- Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
- Applicants must have an anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
