About the role#
As a Summer Associate on the Internal Audit Operational Audit team, you will support efforts to evaluate risk management and control effectiveness across the organization. This 12-week program runs from May 2027 through August 2027. You will work on projects focused on areas such as Corporate Services, Lending, and Member Experience. This is a full-time, paid internship.
What you'll do#
- Assist with operational audits following internal and industry standards.
- Conduct research, analyze data, and participate in process walkthroughs.
- Document process narratives, workflows, and audit workpapers.
- Identify key risks and controls and assist in performing control testing.
- Review audit evidence to determine the design and operating effectiveness of controls.
- Summarize potential issues for discussion with the Auditor-In-Charge.
- Use Microsoft Copilot and AI agents to support research, analysis, and automation.
- Manage your own workload and timelines, reporting any issues to management.
- Collaborate with team members and other Summer Associates on projects.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Business, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field.
- An anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Familiarity with internal audit functions and processes.
- Familiarity with Copilot or other AI systems.
- Strong research, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience interpreting and applying data, guidelines, and regulations.
- An interest in risk management, audit, or enterprise governance.
Location & details#
- This role is hybrid and based in Vienna, VA, Pensacola, FL, or Winchester, VA.
- Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
