About the role#
We are looking for an Optical Test Engineering Trainee to join our team for an 8 to 12-month term starting in January 2027. You will work on-site in Ottawa, supporting optical system verification and automation initiatives. This role involves working with next-generation optical platforms and laboratory equipment to validate networking solutions.
What you'll do#
- Support verification testing activities for Nokia networking solutions.
- Build and maintain Python-based automation tools for test execution, data collection, and reporting.
- Use AI-powered tools to assist with the prediction, analysis, and classification of test results.
- Automate data extraction, cleansing, and analysis to improve overall test efficiency.
- Maintain and improve optical testbeds to meet project objectives.
- Execute test plans, document results, and prepare technical summaries of your findings.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and support system validation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree or College Diploma program in Electronic and Communication Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of fiber optics and optical fiber communication technologies.
- Programming experience using Python.
- Exposure to laboratory environments involving fiber optics, photonics, or optical communications.
- Familiarity with automation concepts.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and learning.
