About the role#
We are looking for a News Intern to join the team at WHAM for the Fall 2026 term. This role focuses on the ARC news concept, which emphasizes authentic, relevant, and community-focused storytelling. You will contribute to broadcast and digital news coverage while gaining practical experience in a professional newsroom environment.
What you'll do#
- Research, write, and produce news stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
- Work alongside reporters, anchors, producers, and photographers in the newsroom and in the field.
- Pitch fresh story ideas to help shape news coverage.
- Learn to shoot video and frame visuals.
- Gain exposure to control room operations and live broadcast production.
What you'll need#
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or be a recent graduate.
- Be at least a sophomore at an accredited college or university.
- Be eligible to work in the United States.
- Have reliable transportation, as housing and relocation assistance are not provided.
- Preferred fields of study include Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Political Science, or Sociology.

- Location: Rochester, New York.
- Modality: On-site at WHAM.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Schedule: Approximately 15 hours per week for 10 weeks.
- Start date: Between August 24 and September 14, 2026.
- Compensation: $17.00 per hour.
