About the role#
SSR is looking for a Building Enclosure Intern to join our team in Houston. You will support enclosure consulting, design review, and field investigation efforts. Our team focuses on the performance, durability, and integrity of exterior building systems like roofs, walls, windows, and waterproofing. This role bridges architecture, structural engineering, and materials science, making it a fit for students interested in building science and performance.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate building envelope systems for new construction and existing buildings.
- Visit sites to observe construction progress, inspect details, and document field conditions.
- Review architectural drawings and specifications for compliance with performance criteria.
- Participate in enclosure testing, such as water infiltration testing, infrared thermography, and air barrier evaluations.
- Prepare technical reports, inspection checklists, and field documentation.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and internal design teams to resolve enclosure challenges.
- Apply industry standards and company policies under the guidance of project leads.
- Attend team meetings to capture notes, actions, and due dates.
- Participate in trainings, lunch-and-learns, and site walks to build practical experience.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Science, or a related field.
- Completion of at least your sophomore year by the start of the internship.
- Strong attention to detail and an interest in building systems, materials, and performance.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or Bluebeam.
- Clear written communication, presentation skills, and strong speech clarity.
- Willingness to perform field work in various environmental conditions.
- Professionalism and the ability to collaborate well in team settings.
