About the role#
Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. is hiring a Plumbing Intern to join our design team in Overland Park. This position provides hands-on experience in the design of plumbing systems for healthcare, education, commercial, and sports facilities. You will work alongside experienced professionals to support projects that impact communities across the country.
What you'll do#
- Assist engineers with the design of plumbing systems for various facility types.
- Prepare technical documentation, calculations, and diagrams using Revit.
- Participate in design meetings, internal project reviews, and site visits.
- Conduct research to support engineering decisions and ensure code compliance.
- Collaborate with team members across different disciplines.
- Build familiarity with industry standards including IPC, UPC, NFPA, and ASPE.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related degree program.
- An interest in building systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or other CAD software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including clear speech and presentation abilities.
- A proactive approach to learning, asking questions, and taking initiative.
- Professionalism and the ability to collaborate effectively in team settings.
- Solid judgment and decision-making skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Overland Park, Kansas.
- Modality: This is an on-site, full-time, paid internship.
- Term: Rolling basis.
- Note: Paid overtime is included, and a housing allowance is available for interns who do not live near an office location.
