About the role#
The Respiratory Therapist Student Extern provides respiratory care to non-critical patients across all age groups at The Hospitals of Providence - Trans Mountain Campus. You will apply clinical judgment to implement respiratory programs and communicate recommendations to physicians and nursing staff. This is a paid, full-time, on-site position with a rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Provide high-quality care to assigned patients.
- Maintain a safe department environment by following all hospital policies, safety regulations, and environmental rounds requirements.
- Identify potential hazards, report unsafe conditions or malfunctioning equipment, and follow through to resolution.
- Keep work and break areas clean and stocked.
- Participate in safety education programs.
- Comply with The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals and Standards.
- Apply knowledge of Evidence Based Medicine and Core Measures patient care standards.
- Contribute to department quality and performance improvement.
- Ensure professional business operations within the department.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a course of study leading to graduation.
- Enrollment for credit in the clinical portion of an approved respiratory care education program, or graduation from such a program with an active application for licensure with the Texas Medical Board.
- Eligibility for NBRC credentialing as a Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist.
- Current BLS Certification for Healthcare.
- Fluency in speaking and writing English.
