About the role#
Turner Construction is looking for a Construction Safety Intern to join our Seattle team for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site position designed to provide hands-on experience with safety and loss control on active construction projects. You will work under the direction of a supervisor to support our safety programs and ensure compliance with project and regulatory standards.
What you'll do#
- Implement the Building L.I.F.E. and project safety programs.
- Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices, prioritizing situations that pose immediate danger.
- Coordinate safety duties for committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings.
- Conduct worker orientation programs and coordinate training sessions.
- Review subcontractor safety programs for policy compliance.
- Promote safe work practices and conditions in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations.
- Administer the drug screening program.
- Assist with preconstruction meetings and conduct research.
- Perform jobsite inspections and develop inspection summaries.
- Maintain safety records, including incident investigations, training logs, and hazard analyses.
- Document meetings and maintain project safety metrics.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Completion of at least 1 year of post-secondary education.
- Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles.
- A desire to work in construction management.
- Flexibility to work standard business hours and overtime as required.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in computer and data entry tasks.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Personal accountability and a proactive, curious approach to learning.
