About the role#
The University of South Florida Institute of Applied Engineering is seeking a student intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role supports operations at SOFWERX, a facility focused on collaboration and innovation for the United States Special Operations Command. You will work on-site in Tampa, Florida, and gain experience in professional media production within a research and defense-focused environment.
What you'll do#
- Capture high-quality video footage of events, experiments, demonstrations, and interviews.
- Edit and produce professional video content for internal and external communication channels.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop visual storytelling concepts.
- Manage and organize media assets, including file naming, tagging, and archiving.
- Assist with lighting, sound, and camera setup for studio and field shoots.
- Support post-production tasks such as color correction, motion graphics, captions, and sound mixing.
- Create shorts, reels, and visual recaps for outreach.
- Participate in weekly market research and submit entries regarding new capabilities or technologies.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment as a Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program at an accredited local university, with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Demonstrated experience in videography, cinematography, or multimedia production.
- A strong technical understanding of camera operation, lighting, and audio recording.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
- Excellent storytelling, communication, and organizational skills.
- U.S. citizenship is required due to Department of Defense funding and potential access to Controlled Unclassified Information.
Location & details#
- Location: Tampa, Florida.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Pay: $17.00 per hour.
- Schedule: 15 to 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 8:00am and 5:00pm.
- Modality: This position is on-site with limited remote work opportunities.
