About the role#
The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences College of Dentistry is hiring a full-time, research-focused faculty member. This position is open rank, including Assistant, Associate, or Professor, and may be tenure or non-tenure track. You will combine an independent or collaborative research program with a dedicated focus on student mentorship and scholarly development. The role involves teaching contributions and fostering a culture of inquiry across the dental education continuum.
What you'll do#
- Mentor predoctoral and graduate students as they develop research questions, study designs, and project timelines.
- Provide hands-on guidance in research methods specific to biomedical and oral health sciences.
- Support students in the responsible conduct of research, including ethics and compliance.
- Coordinate student research experiences by working with departmental and college leadership.
- Develop and deliver workshops or structured programming focused on research fundamentals.
What you'll need#
- A doctoral degree (DDS, DMD, PhD, or equivalent) in Dentistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
- Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple trainee projects and timelines simultaneously.
- Experience in developing student research programming, structured mentorship models, or research training curricula.
- Familiarity with research compliance processes, such as IRB or IACUC, and best practices in research rigor and reproducibility.
- Teaching experience using active-learning approaches and outcomes-based assessment.
