About the role#
The University of Virginia School of Data Science is hiring a Marketing and Communications Intern to join the communications team. You will work under the supervision of the Director of Communications and the Writer and Editorial Specialist. This position runs through the fall of 2026 with an option to renew for the winter of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Create, edit, and proofread articles for the school website and monthly newsletter.
- Fact check names, titles, and technical details within data science materials.
- Cover school events by conducting interviews and gathering transcripts, notes, and quotes for stories.
- Assist with content research and administrative tasks for editorial projects.
- Draft and proofread various communications materials, including marketing copy and web content.
- Help with document accessibility and formatting.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at UVA.
- Work Study eligibility.
- Experience using Microsoft Office.
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with a focus on detail.
- A demonstrated ability to support diverse perspectives and an inclusive environment.
- Preferred: experience interviewing sources, publishing articles, or working with AP style.
Location & details#
- This role is located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
- The position is on-site and paid.
- Work is primarily sedentary, involving computer use, though you may need to travel to attend various meetings and programs.
